Performance

As we have found in many cards, stock performance of the VisionTek GeForce2 MX is not more or less impressive than any other GeForce2 MX out there. The performance problems do not become an issue until one attempts to overclock the card. Although we were not disappointed with our overclocking outcome, the 7ns RAM chips could spell overclocking disaster for some.

Price

With a retail price of $108, the VisionTek GeForce2 MX is out for blood. Not only is this card attractively priced, it is rather easy to find on line. It is only a matter of time before the magical $100 mark is broken, and we would not be surprised if the VisionTek card is one of the first to do so.

Drivers

Using NVIDIA's reference drivers as the shipping drivers saves both developmental time and money. It would have been nice, however, to include the drivers on a CD, so those of us with slower internet connections do not have to wait to download the newest drivers.

Features

As we mentioned before, a card this low priced is not targeted at a feature rich market. Rather, the VisionTek GeForce2 MX comes rather stripped in order to save money. Once nice feature is the fact that pin headers for video-in and video-out are still present, making a ViVo upgrade unlikely but possible.

Retail Availability

VisionTek is a major manufacturer for many retail companies, such as ELSA. As a result of this, VisionTek has no problem meeting the demand of a very popular market such as the budget video card market. It is easy to find the VisionTek card online at a variety of retailers.

Documentation & Software Bundle

With no software bundle at all and no driver CD, the VisionTek GeForce2 MX is bare to the bone. It is really not that bad having to download the latest drivers from the web before install, but it does make for some trouble. As far as the nonexistent documentation goes, this is really not a problem for many advanced users, however many of the budget users that VisionTek is targeting may not be as into computers. Luckily, the VisionTek website does provide an installation guide available for download.
