nice but why ship with an old OS.

This phone is very low end. From their point of view, nougat doesn't have much benefit either and for security, you don't buy this phone and expect security as one of its feature
  • Flunk - Thursday, January 5, 2017 - link

And that's the sort of attitude that makes OEMs not bother updating their OSes.

How is security not a priority on EVERY device?!

This is what I hate about shit tier OEMs.
  • philehidiot - Monday, January 9, 2017 - link

Are there any OEMs (aside from specialists) which actually take security seriously? By this I mean releasing Android security patches as they come out and so on. I thought HTC was pretty good but it seemed to take them a relative age to release the patches for their flagship model for Quadrooter even though (and someone correct me here if I'm wrong) the patches had already been produced by the SoC manufacturer for the affected devices and they just needed to deploy it.

It just seems mad to me that you buy a very expensive device and don't get the support. Mine is at October 2016 and this is just unacceptable to me. If Google want me to use Android pay then they'd sure as hell better get the OEMs to get their act together.

You are whining about the phone not being updated enough but its a sub 200 dollar phone. That's the buy it price without contracts or any monthly payment for the actual phone. Of course it's not going to be as nice as a 750 dollar galaxy.

"The integrated MediaTek Category 4 LTE modem will work on US GSM carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular but not Sprint or Verizon."

US Cellular is a CDMA carrier.

Looks cool but imo there are way too many good/decent budget smartphones out there now.

Not to mention that they already have great dev support (moto g4, Honor 5X, etc.).

Phones like these will languish at the wayside.

Nexus 5 on swappa for under $100. LG G2 $80. lol. Hell of a lot better than a laughable 1.0 GHz A53. Yeeick...
  • negusp - Thursday, January 5, 2017 - link

I wouldn't touch any phone on swappa unless I needed a throwaway or was ROM cooking. Especially the Nexus 5 and its power button.

But then again, the A53 is all you need for a smooth experience and you get the added benefit of far better battery life.

For an entry level phone this isn't too bad.

I bought an N5 off swappa in March and it's been flawless. Best $120 I ever spent on a phone. The above phone should be $100 or less in today's market.

I have a phone with that SoC. the difference is that it has only 1GB of RAM and a 4.5 inch 480p display.

It run every app that i use, i can use facebook and Spotify at the same time with no stretch.

But to change apps, man that take a long time.

The BLU Vivo Air LTE cost me about the same, has OLED, 2GB RAM, and is 5mm thick. It's also from late 2015, so I'd expect a bit better than this.
